Bev's 9-Patch....Christmas 2008

When Melissa and I decided to make a quilt together for her mom for Christmas we wanted a simple pattern and an old-fashioned scrappy look. We decided on a 9 patch and started making blocks from our stash. We each made half of the 9-patch blocks. Now what to do with them?? We saw this setting and thought it would work out and liked the secondary pattern that shows with the gold and green around the 9-patches. We had chosen that flowered fabric to pick our colors from and with a vague idea of using it for the border. Melissa had this gold and green which helps tone down the "busyness" of the many patterns. ...... so with the 3 together in a rail-fence block, we had a simple setting.
We had it machine quilted by Linda B. and as usual she did a wonderful job. We worked together on binding the edges and when we finished it threw it on Laura's bed to see how it looked.

We were happy with it and there is a lovely blue paisley on the back.

Christmas eve Bev opened it and was very happy with it. I haven't gotten a good photo of it on her bed yet. Too many people, and too much going on that night!

The 2 "quilt elves" peeking over her chair as Mike takes a photo.
It was a fun project and I haven't done much that was "scrappy" so this gave me ideas and I do like the old-fashioned look!

Hi there...I followed you from Sandy's blog. I love your quilts! I quilt (or used to) and go to quilt shows every chance I get. I hope to get time to make one for our grand daughter very soon. I just wanted to say Hi and I will come back and see you again.

This is a very easy pattern...great beginner quilt :-) It's the mishmash of fabrics that make it look good. I'm always a bit intimidated by mixing lots of fabrics and worry they won't look good, but scrappy quilts always seem to "work" in the end! My sister-in-law and I have very different stashes of fabrics, so it was interesting to see our blocks come together and look great!

I love this quilt! I really need to get started again on quilting. I was doing so good for a little while, now it has been so long since I have really found joy in it.

Rose: I enjoyed working on this because I was doing it with someone else. I think some times we need another quilter around to help spur us on and give us fresh enthusiasm. I was surprised how well I liked it after it was done. I haven't done a lot of scrappy looking quilts and this had a real old-fashioned appeal...and was easy with just the two blocks.
