I am so excited about these gorgeous batik fabrics that I have to post this even though it is a long way from finished! I decided that Mike and I needed a new bed quilt.....I've only made us one before! I have fallen in love with batik fabrics and chose all of my favorite greens, browns, golds, beige, orange, and touch of purple.....nature colors and patterns!
(click on any photo to see the colors and patterns better)
It is a really simple pattern.....take fat quarters and cut strips 2 1/2", 4 1/2" and 6 1/2".
Mix and match them and sew them together with the smallest one in the middle. Then cut a 12 1/2" square from the strip. I have a lot of lovely left over ends to make a runner or pillow shams or something with!
Unfortunately, I still need about 21 blocks to make a quilt big enough for our bed, so I must get busy on more! I do not want borders on this quilt....just binding on the edges.
I know that I'm going to sleep really well under this when it is finished! I may never want to get up!

It's going to be gorgeous. I am with you... just stay in bed under all that beautiful color.
I really love batik fabric and the stores here don't sell much. I go crazy when I get out of town to a big quit store :-)
I have a whole collection of batik fabrics. I cannot decide what to make with them...cannot bare to cut into them. But I will do it one of these days. I keep think they would make such pretty butterflies....
Rose: That is exactly the same way I was! I kept buying them. but never could bear to cut them and use them because they were so beautiful the way they were! I finally took the plunge and cut some for a fall runner and now for this quilt. I figure this is for my own bed and I will get to look at them all the time! If I could get them more easily, I would be more apt to use them more.
I love all your quilts. Soooo much work and very colorful! I just started quilting about two years and love to see the work of others! Thanks for visiting my blog today! Have fun quilting!! :)
Tina: Isn't quilting fun? Stick with it and try everything you can! I just love it, even though I'm not good at the quilting part.
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. Still haven't made up my mind about which log cabin setting to use, although I think it might be the second one.
I like the Log Cabin you made Mary. The blue is lovely.

Beautiful!!! Love those colors. I'll be back to catch up on those birdies and here tomorrow...missed visiting.
Christine: It's going to be beautiful, no matter which one you choose!
Sandy: Thanks! I got the rows all sewn together last night. May sew the entire top tonight if I'm not too tired. Unfortunately, my quilter is probably booked solid with Christmas projects right now. I'm really anxious to finish this and get it on our bed. These are my favorite type of fabrics and colors.
I am not a huge batik fan (too traditional in my tastes!) but I really love this quilt! It has such soft, wonderful colors!
Tile Lady: I find that I like most fabric if its made into a beautiful quilt :-) I like the traditional took, but something about batik fabrics...in these colors and nature inspired designs...really grabls me. I'm sure I'll use plenty of both!
