Quilter's Day Out 2009....

Saturday was Quilter's Day Out here in Evansville. Once a year, the 3 local area quilt guilds get together and enjoy a day of quilting exhibits, speakers, vendors, and sharing our last years quilting experiences through show-and-tell of our projects. It's a great day for all the area quilters! This is our raffle quilt for this year and if I can figure out a way to sell tickets to any of you that are interested and who don't live too far away (like across the ocean!) I will be happy to do so. Tickets are $1 a piece or 6 for $5. The raffle isn't until December at our Christmas meeting, so I will get back to this later.
There were lots of vendors waiting to take our money and a treasure table of items individuals wanted to sell.

A very nice display of Underground Railroad quilts for us to look at and enjoy.

Lot's of great quilting door prizes.......I won a couple of Fons and Porter items (a pin magnet and a lot of assorted pins). The big door prizes of the day, were 3 baskets each with 50 fat quarters.
We had two wonderful speakers. This is Dallas Reed and not only is he a great quilter, but one of the funniest guys I have ever heard. His talk...."Confessions of a Fabricholic" had the place in "stitches" :-) He also writes poems and I wish I had a book with his wonderful quilt poems....some funny, some nostalgic, all good.
Here is one of his African inspired quilts.
Our second speaker was Marti Plager and spoke on "My Journey as a Quilt Artist". Her work ranged from the traditional to much more modern works as her artist vision changed.
I'll admit that I like her early work best and this was one of my favorites.
And of course each of the guilds provided some beautiful quilts to look at as well as many "show-and-tell" items.

I have tons more photos and will add a link below where you can go to see more of our Quilt Day. What a great time we all had!

ohhhh wonderful quilts and I like that guy's african quilt. i would love to get tickets...if you let me know how, I may purchase 10 or 20 bucks worth! It would be well worth it to win.

Loved looking at all the quilts. Strange that here in Missouri we also had a show somewhat like this one that I went to yesterday. I have the pattern for the braided one you posted. I need to get busy and get back to sewing. Are you planning on going to the Paducah show in April? My husband and I are going.

Latane:It was a great day with so much to see and hear.

Sandy: will get back with you about the raffle quilt soon.

Brenda: The third Saturday of March is National Quilt Day and there would have been celebrations in many cities among lots of guilds. We do this every year with our 3 local guilds taking turns hosting the event. I'm going to Paducah on Wednesday, 22...opening day. It is usually less crowded. I love going to the show! Let me know if that is when you are going.

Mary,
We are going to Paducah on Thursday and or Friday. I could go on Friday with a bus but I would have to get up at 4 am. Don't think I can do that. My husband doesn't mind the drive with me. We have been doing it for years now. My quilting buddies all moved away years ago, and I haven't had many gals to go with. Maybe I will see you someday there. Or we will at least get to see each others pictures on the blog.

Wow, these are true works of art. I've always thought that I would like to learn quilting but never took that leap. Maybe someday.

Brenda: Too bad we aren't going the same day. We are having a quilt show here in September, but of course it is just local and not a huge event like Paducah! Iowa has a great AQS sponsored show now and last year when I went, it was nearly deserted....first year to have it. It was terrific to wander around with not many people in the way. However...it's a 9 hour drive from here to Des Moines.

Jessica: If you sew at all, it is easy to try quilting with really simple patterns that give wonderful results that look harder than they are....just using strips or squares. You can even buy pre-cut stuff! If you don't already sew, it might take longer to start, but anyone can quilt! The pioneer women did it and so can we with all our modern gadgets that make it easier!
