This was certainly a busy week for quilt shows! I went to the Des Moines Quilt Show on Wednesday and then after getting back home, Melissa and I went to the quilt show in Vincennes on Saturday! This quilt show is in conjunction with Grouseland, the home of William Henry Harrison, the only president of the US from Indiana. We toured his home, but were not allowed to take photos. (clicking on any of these photos will bring them up for study)
The quilt show featured mostly old quilts or quilts that looked old fashioned. Very nice! I won't lable every photo. They had a special contest called the Old Tippecanoe Quilt Block Challenge and showed the winners.....but again, I was not allowed to photograph them because the magazine sponsoring them as first rights to publish.

Beautiful quilting on this one!

I heard this called a "Cheddar, butter, cream" quilt. I had not heard that before but see why with the colors!

I don't know where to start.
I have a passle of Bear PAw blocks and now a new idea for how to set them.
I'm not fond of piceing the curves either, but they are not really that bad if you do a few at a time. Remember two things--pin pin pin, and the boob on the bottom.
I love the setting on that pinwheel, too. Something to think about.
A lovely show. Thanks for sharing.
Katney: I thought these quilts were wonderful. I love batiks and new fabrics and art quilts, but something about the old ones just really grabs you. I love bear paws and I thought that setting with the quarter triangle blocks was really attractive. I've never made a bear paw, but would like to. I did one quilt with drunkard path curved blocks...my "Dark Side of the Moon" quilt, but it takes 16 of those individual blocks to make just one of the Drunkards blocks! Groan! I don't think I would ever get it done without losing my patience of my sanity.
Well I like them all, these seem more "subdued" than other ones you've posted from shows. They are nice in an old fashioned way, really nice.
Sandy: These were mostly either old quilts....1800's or early 1900's...or were made to look like old quilts. These were mostly made to be used on beds and not necessarily for "show" like so many quilts now. Very traditional! Function and beauty both! Nothing like the "art" quilts that are the current style and that I take so many photos of at quilt shows. Colors and styles have really changed over the years! I love any kind of quilt!
Wow I love the quilts - especially the first one!
I am really impressed with the whole cloth quilt. I could study these all day. Each quilt brought a "wow" from me. I feel like I had my quilt fix for the day. Thank you.
